Choose from a selection of 30 itineraries and discover the panoramic views in the Barétous valley, through the landscapes crossing the countryside, highlands and high mountains, accessible on foot or by mountain bike: signposted and well-kept trails for all levels and the whole family.
The most prestigious of these itineraries, and also the most demanding, corresponds to the GR10 crossing the Pyrenees and passing through la Pierre Saint-Martin.

1 theme trail in Arette
The “ Bois du Calvaire ” Discovery Trail, is a 2-km circuit enabling you to discover the forest environment (fauna, flora and tree species) and natural local heritage. This fun trip, which completes the visit of Arette village, has many interactive terminal points. There are also interactive question and answer ’ terminals to amuse children.

2 theme trails in Lanne en Barétous
The “ 1,000 Years of History ” trail will enable you to discover the history of the village with 12 presentation panels. Departure point: town centre.
The “ Barlanès valley discovery trail ” , will help you to understand the preserved natural areas in our countryside: Arguibelle Cliff, Issarbe moorlands and tree species in our forests, as well as the country traditions in Barétous valley.
Departure point: Barlanès suburb (7km from the town centre)

Panoramas and viewing tables

Discover the exceptional panoramas of Barétous valley using the three viewing tables, for a better understanding of the surrounding countryside, from the Pyrenees mountain range to the Basque coast.

-  In Issarbe, 1,500m high, amidst the bilberry-covered slopes, a hike of approximately one hour and following a trail will enable you to arrive at the viewing table that locales Basque peaks, la Pierre Saint-Martin mountains and gorges of the Soule Province in Basque Region.

Table d’orientation de Gouloume

-  In Aramits, a signposted hike (approximately one hour) will lead you to the Col de Bugalaran where you will find a viewing table showing the villages in the valley and the neighbouring peaks. Follow the signs indicating “ Espace Forêt Loisirs" when you leave the village of Aramits. You can also reach the viewing table by car, taking the road towards Aventure Parc®.

-  From la Pierre Saint-Martin, it’s an easy walk to the viewing table that locates the surroundings peaks: Arlas, Anie, Soum Couy.

Practical tip: When in the mountains, do not leave without a suitable pair of shoes and a protective garment (the weather can change quickly), and do not forget your camera!

The Braca area

Located at an altitude of 1,550m, just minutes away from la Pierre Saint-Martin, are 25km of wide slopes (used in winter for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing) promise leisurely time in the forest, among the many species of trees. It is an easy walk, suitable for the family. You will be charmed by the variety of landscapes: a wooded copse here and an open space there, where the fabulous panoramic view from the crests of Soudet will leave you full of emotion.... Il is easy to reach: From Arette, follow the direction towards la Pierre Saint-Martin for 21 km. You can park in the car park on the right, and you’re there!

Discover the hidden locations and the essential sites in the Barétous Valley. Whether on the mire and easy trails of the piedmont or those of the frontier peaks, you will walk with a slow, steady rythm, here and there observing and pointing out the plants and their history, or insects and animal footprints, not to mention looking up to the sky and watching the graceful flight of large birds of prey.
